Party food tips for toddlers & preschoolers
1. Portion sizes
Try to remember that at parties toddlers and preschoolers like to try one piece of everything and their eyes are often bigger than their tummies!
To help with this, keep portion sizes small and don't feel that you have to offer dozens of different dishes.
2. Serve some plain food
While no kids birthday party is complete in the mind of a toddler or preschooler unless chips or lollies are present, you might be surprised by how well a dish of something plainer can go down.
Try a dish of plain cooked pasta, plain popcorn or cold potatoes.
3. Include some fruit & veges
Healthy snacks of fruit and veges are also a good idea for toddlers and preschoolers.
Try small rounds of cooked corn on the cob, carrot and celery sticks, raw broccoli and cauliflower chunks or fruit kebabs.
4. Don't forget savoury treats too
For variety, try to include some easy savoury food treats too such as garlic bread, rice crackers with hummus, cooked chicken nibbles or drumsticks, sausage rolls etc.
Food that is easy for toddlers and preschoolers to pick up in their small hands.
5. Cooking hot food
If you are offering hot food, remember to prepare it in advance, allowing enough time for it to cool down to a suitable temperature for young kids before serving it.
