Make your own shaving cream rain clouds

What you’ll need to create shaving cream rain clouds

  • Small containers or cups
  • Water
  • Food colouring (range of colours)
  • A glass, a jar or vase
  • Shaving cream
  • Eye dropper or syringe
  • How to make your shaving cream rain clouds

1. Fill each small container or cup with water (approx. 40mls) and add a different colour food colouring to each container (approx. 20 drops).

2. Select your glass or jar and fill it nearly to the top with water, leaving around 3-4 cm at the top. Carefully squirt the shaving cream on top of the water.

3. Using the eye dropper or syringe, drop the food colouring mixture onto the top of the shaving cream to create your rain.

The weight of the food colouring slowly pushes through the shaving cream and falls down into the water creating a pretty rain-like effect.

The closer to the edge of the glass or jar you drop the food colouring, the faster your rain will fall through.

Tips for your shaving cream clouds

  • The amount of water you use alters how quickly the rain will fall - the less water you use (and therefore the more concentrated the food colouring will be), the faster the rain will fall; and the more water you use, the more rain it will make.

  • The more shaving cream you use in step 2, the longer it takes for the rain to fall. So don’t make the shaving foam too high or your preschooler will get bored waiting!

  • Buy unscented shaving cream if your preschooler has skin allergies.
