Make your own paper stickers

What you'll need to make your paper stickers

  • 1 packet unflavoured gelatin (125g)
  • Half a cup boiling water
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • Half a teaspoon of vanilla essence
  • Small bowl
  • Sheets of white paper
  • Crayons and/or felt tip pens
  • Scissors
  • Small paint brush

How to make your paper stickers

1. Mix the gelatin, boiling water, sugar and vanilla essence in the small bowl and set it aside to cool.

2. Draw small colourful pictures on the paper using crayons or felt tip pens.

3. Cut out the pictures, paint the backs with the gelatin mixture and set out to dry. Once completely dry, reapply another coat of the gelatin mixture and wait for the stickers to fully dry again.

4. Once the paper stickers have dried and you're ready to use them, lick or dampen down the backs of the stickers with a little water and stick them to a piece of paper to create your own piece of art, birthday cards and more!

Tips for your paper stickers

  • Thin paper is likely to curl, so you can just flatten it with a book when the stickers are thoroughly dry.

  • If you still have some of the gelatin mix left over once you've finished your artwork, store it in a glass jar with a lid in the fridge. Just gently heat up the jar in a pan of hot water until the gelatin mixture is the right consistency.

  • Instead of drawing designs for the paper stickers, you can cut out shapes from magazines and wrapping paper or print some designs off then cut them out.
