What you will need for your colourful clay

To make one batch of coloured clay you will need:

Ingredients

  • 1 cup corn flour
  • 2 cups baking soda
  • 1.5 cups water
  • A few drops of food colouring or icing gel for a richer colour

Equipment

  • Old spoon for mixing
  • Old saucepan for cooking the clay
  • Cling film to cover the clay once it's made

How to make colourful clay

1. To make the clay in one colour add all the ingredients to an old saucepan.

2. Mix everything together with the spoon and cook over a medium heat.

3. Keep stirring the mixture constantly until it is too hard to stir any more.

4. Let the clay mixture cool for 15 minutes.

5. Remove the clay from the saucepan and knead it on a wooden board or the kitchen bench until it is smooth.

6. Wrap the clay up in the cling film to keep it moist until you're ready to use it.

7. When you're ready, unwrap the clay and help the kids make all sorts of creations.

From pots and animals, to clay Christmas tree decorations, letters, numbers, fossils, ornaments and more.

8. Once your kids have finished playing with the clay, leave their creations to dry and harden. It will take around 1 day for the clay to set hard.

Tip for your colourful clay

  • Repeat the process above a few more times using different coloured food colouring or icing gels so you end up with a range of fun colours for the kids to play with.
