These toy sail boats are easy to make and perfect for summer time.

Kids can play with them in a paddling pool or bucket of water, or even in the bath before bed.

Toy sail boats are also a great education tool, which you can use to teach your toddler or preschooler about how sails work in the wind and the importance of water safety when you're out in a boat.

They can help enhance their mathematical and science skills (floating, sinking, heavy and light) and hand-eye coordination too.

What you will need for your sail boats

  • Old plastic bag or foam card
  • PVA glue
  • Pencil
  • Scissors
  • Felt tip pens (optional)
  • Play dough
  • Foil loaf tin

How to make your sail boats

1. Cut a sail out of an old plastic bag or foam card into whichever shape you like.

2. Glue the sail onto the pencil and leave to dry.

3. Cut out your favourite number in foam card with the scissors, stick it onto your sail with glue and leave to dry, or draw it on with a felt tip pen.

4. Press a ball of play dough into the centre of the foil loaf tin.

5. Poke the pencil and sail into the play dough, being careful not to make a hole in the bottom of your boat.

6. Decorate your Sail Boat  with the foam card and felt tip pens.

Why it's good for pre-schoolers to set goals

Why it's good for pre-schoolers to set goals

Goal setting for pre-schoolers is not something we hear about often, but it’s never too early to start. It’s a great way to build their self-confidence and a valuable life-long skill. Goal-setting helps them to identify what is wanted, and that if they set their minds to something, they can achieve it. Setting goals with your children will direct their efforts and encourage them to achieve success.
