Make your own magnetic puzzles for toddlers & preschoolers

Magnetic puzzles are easy to make at home and you can stick the puzzles to the fridge or to a small baking try when you’re out and about in the car, in a café or off on holiday.

As well as being lots of fun, toddlers and preschoolers gain enormous benefits from playing with puzzles. This brain-building activity helps develop their cognitive, problem-solving and fine motor skills too.

Magnetic puzzles are also real space savers. No more stepping over puzzles on the floor or searching for lost pieces.

What you’ll need for your magnetic puzzle

  • Wooden puzzle or cardboard puzzle (suitable for your toddler’s/preschooler’s age)

  • Adhesive magnetic sheets (durable enough to withstand repeated play)

  • Scissors

To make your magnetic puzzle

1.    Using the scissors, cut the adhesive magnetic sheets into strips just shorter than the length of the puzzle pieces.

2.    Peel off the backing to the magnetic strips and stick a strip onto the back of each of the puzzle pieces.

3.    Trim off any excess magnetic strip that overhangs the puzzle piece.

You’re ready to start your magnetic puzzle!
