Make your own sand & rocks box

What you’ll need for your sand & rock box

  • An under-bed storage box or shallow box with a lid

  • Bag(s) of sand (enough to fill the bottom of the box)

  • Shop-bought polished stones or stones from the garden or beach

  • Water to keep the sand wet enough to mould into different shapes

  • Small toy trucks, diggers etc

How to make your sand & rocks box

1. Add enough sand to the bottom of the box so it’s completely covered. How deep you fill it is up to you.

2. Add the rocks along one side of the box on top of the sand.

3. Add the construction toys and you’re all set to go!

4. When your kids have finished playing with the sand and rocks box, just put on the lid and store it away for another day.

Ideas for your sand & rocks box

  • Instead of a construction theme, why not set up a beach theme with shells, seaweed, driftwood, buckets, spades, rakes etc.

  • The sand may dry out from time to time, so just mix in some water so that it’s easy for your kids to mould it and build sandcastles etc.
