It’s cheap, quick and easy to set up and if you do it outside (highly recommended!), there’s not that much mess to clean up afterwards.

Kids of all ages will love it!

What you’ll need

  • Milk (full fat not skimmed)
  • Shallow dish
  • A variety of food colouring colours
  • A small bowl of dishwashing liquid
  • Cotton buds

Instructions

1. Pour a thin layer of milk into your shallow dish.

2. Add a few of drops of food colouring onto the surface of the milk. You can either use one colour or a couple of different colours.

3. Dip a cotton bud into the dishwashing liquid and then into the milk, aiming for the centre of each spot of food colouring.

4. Watch the colours explode and enjoy!

Tips

  • You may find after a few goes the milk becomes quite muddy looking. Simply empty the milk mixture and start again and again!

  • To keep your little one’s attention a little longer, why not add some baking soda and vinegar to the mixture too! Simply sprinkle some baking soda onto the surface of the milk, then with a dropper, teaspoon or simply by pouring, add some vinegar and watch the Magic Rainbow Milk foam and bubble away!

  • With a drinking straw, let your little ones have a blast making bubbles by blowing into the coloured milk.

Encouraging your pre-schooler to read & write

Why is it that some children enjoy writing and drawing and for others it’s a struggle to get them to even pick up a pencil? Children are unique and each has individual ways in which they learn. There are many different learning styles and many children lean towards one, while also being a combination of others.
