How to make your Halloween gingerbread skeletons
1. Turn the oven on to 190 degrees C /Gas 5.
2. Put the flour, ground ginger and bicarbonate of soda into a bowl and rub in the butter.
3. Add the sugar and stir in the golden syrup and egg to make a firm dough.
4. Roll out the dough to approx 5mm thick and cut out your gingerbread skeletons with the cookie cutter.
5. Put the shapes onto greased or lined baking trays, spacing them out as they will spread whilst cooking.
6. Bake for 10 to 15 minutes until golden brown.
7. Leave your gingerbread men to firm up for a couple of minutes on the baking tray before placing on a wire rack to cool.
8. Once cooled, make up some white icing according to the packet instructions and divide it into 3 bowls - leave one batch plain white, add black food colouring to the second batch and purple food colouring to the third batch (or divide up the mixture according to the number of colours you decide on).
9. Decorate your gingerbread men and transform them into your very own Halloween Skeletons! Use the image in this recipe as a guide.
