CHRISTCHURCH: Starfish Swim School teaches kids swim classes, with an amazing swim program for babies, toddlers and preschoolers from 6 months old and upwards.
We believe that swimming is a life skill that all children in New Zealand need to learn to be safer around water.
So here at Starfish Swim School, we not only teach swimming skills, but also water safety skills to all children.
Starfish Swim School swim classes
We believe that introducing children to water and swimming lessons at a young age is a great way to build their enjoyment and confidence in and around water.
We will work with you to find the best level for your child to start at, but with being a small swim school, we are able to change their class level during the term if needed.
We run our Water Babies and Preschool program Monday – Thursday from 9.30am – 1.00pm and on Saturday mornings from 9.00am - 11.30am.
Water Babies swim classes
For our Water Babies swim classes we have a maximum of 6 children in each group.
These classes are a parent and child class for children under 3 years old.
- Starfish swim classes are suitable for babies 6 – 12 months. The aim of these classes is to introduce babies to the water in a fun, relaxed atmosphere.
- Sea Monkeys swim classes are suitable for children 12 - 24 months old. The focus in these classes is on water confidence and play, with basic skills of swimming.
- Sea Turtles swim classes are suitable for toddlers 2 – 3 years old, focusing on not only water confidence, but also water safety and basic swimming skills for those that are ready.
Preschool swim classes
For our preschool swim classes we have two children in each class for 15 minutes.
From the age of three parents do not need to be in the water with their child.
- Level 1 Tadpoles swim classes are suitable for children 3 years+. The focus in these classes is on water confidence, learning to float and water safety.
- Level 2 Frogs swim classes are also suitable for children 3 years+. Children in these classes learn to float, kick and work on water safety.
About Starfish Swim School
Starfish Swim School is a privately run swim school which has been operating for 10 years.
We are based at 2 Nash Road in Aidanfield, Christchurch on the grounds of Aidanfield Christian School.
We have a 20 metre four lane pool as well as a teaching pool that is 9 metres long. Our swimming pool water temperature sits at 30 degrees celsius all year round.
As well as our Water Babies and Preschool swim classes, we also run swimming lessons after school for school-aged children. Within this we can also cater for preschoolers as we know life is busy and making one trip to the pool is better than two!
