All performers and kids shows are different, but here are a few tips on hiring a birthday party entertainer to help ensure your little guests have fun.
All performers and kids shows are different, but here are a few tips on hiring a kids party entertainer for your little one's next birthday party to help ensure all your little guests have fun.

8 Tips on hiring kids party entertainers

1. Recommendations

Ask friends and family for party entertainment ideas and get them to suggest party entertainers they have used before.

Personal recommendations from parents with kids of a similar age to yours are always a sure-fire hit.

2. Timing

If you can, arrange to have the show at least 30 minutes after the party starts, or anytime later.

This allows for any latecomers, and leaves enough time for the children to get settled.

If the show is set near the start of the party, be sure to let parents know so they make the extra effort to be on time.

3. Venue set up

When booking the entertainment, ask how much space they’ll need for their show.

That way you can pick the best spot for the show to take place, and move around any furniture that might get in the way.

You may even want to make and decorate a backdrop for a more colourful show.

4. Check the fine print

Before confirming your booking, ask the entertainer(s) if they have any restrictions that you will need to consider or tips and advice to help them give the best possible show.

5. Seating

Look to sit all the kids together on the floor.

Chairs and couches are great, but if there isn’t enough room for everyone, it can take away from the mood of the show if all the kids are spread out.

6. Minimise distractions

No matter how good the performance you’ve booked for the party, kids will be kids and their attention can easily drift, so try to keep distractions to a minimum.

7. Party food

Arrange to serve the party food either before or after the show to avoid spills, distractions and choking when the kids all start laughing out loud and interacting with the show.

8. Handling disruptions

There’s not much you can do with a ‘problem child’ who calls out and knows all the answers to a magic trick, but most entertainers are experienced and know just what to say to handle the situation.

The times when it’s good to get involved is when there is an ongoing disruption, when a child actively disturbs the other kids, or when they reach out  to grab the entertainer's props.
