5 Fun party ideas for toddlers & preschoolers

1. Have a big birthday treasure hunt

  • Toddlers and preschoolers love to use their imagination and work together to find hidden treasure.

  • Why not create a birthday treasure hunt, with a hand-drawn treasure map and tokens made from old magazines or cardboard boxes.

  • You could theme the hunt around your toddler's or preschooler's interests such as animals, oceans or transport or one of their favourite characters.

2. Create a ‘recycled orchestra’ & play Happy Birthday

  • Invite your kids friends over to make musical instruments using recycled and craft materials.

  • When you have made your instruments, form an orchestra and create your own version of the ‘Happy Birthday’ song.

3. Decorate cupcakes

  • Entertain your toddler's or preschooler's guests by getting them to decorate some homemade cupcakes using different coloured icing, fruit and other edible decorations.

  • Let them go wild and see what creations they can come up with. And then let them eat them or take them home in their party bags.

  • If you are not big on baking, just buy some pre-made cupcakes and get the kids to decorate these instead.

4. Create a birthday chair

  • Why not decorate your toddler's or preschooler's highchair or a dining chair with their favourite things and all sorts of party supplies such as balloons, hats, ribbons etc.

  • Once it's decorated put the birthday chair at the head of the party table for your little one to sit at during food time.

5. Make footprint birthday art

  • Why not mark this special occasion with a footprint painting activity.

  • This ‘Happy Feet’ article shows you how to create a piece of heart-shaped art from your guests' footprints.

  • Once the artwork has dried, you can write a special note inside the heart and your guests can take their Happy Feet home as a memento of the party.
