Tie dye art for kids using baby wipes

What you’ll need for your tie dye art

  • Baby wipes
  • Small rubber bands
  • Washable marker pens in different colours
  • Paper towels

How to make your tie dye art

1. Pinch the centre of the baby wipe tightly with one hand, and using the other hand twist the wipe round and round to form a sausage shape.

2. Secure the baby wipe with 4 or 5 rubber bands, dividing the wipe up into sections as you go.

3. Have your kids colour in each section between the rubber bands with the different coloured marker pens. Help them really get the colour into the folds of the wipe.

4. Once each baby wipe has been coloured in, help your kids to carefully remove the rubber bands.

5. Place the baby wipe on top of 2 paper towels and leave your artwork to dry.

6. Once the baby wipes are dry you could frame the finished masterpieces, use them as wrapping paper for small gifts, make tie dye bunting or even add a pipe cleaner to make a flag!

Tips for your kids tie dye art

  • The trick for a more vibrant, colourful creation is to get as much marker pen coloured onto the baby wipe as possible.

  • This is a great opportunity to help your kids with colour recognition and also teach them about patterning. Start with a simple pattern like pink, purple, pink purple and ask for their help in determining the next colour in the sequence.

  • It’s also a great activity for your kids to work on their fine motor skills.
