Make your own kids paint brushes

Kids homemade paint brushes using clothes pegs and other materials allow them to experiment, and the opportunity to discover different textures and fun designs with each type of paint brush.

These diy paint brushes also help kids to develop their fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination as they grasp, squeeze and stir the clothes pegs as they create their masterpieces.

Why not make your own paints for your kids too?

Have a go at some of our homemade paint recipes. From watercolour paints, to puffy paints, foam paints, spicy paints and more.

What you’ll need for your homemade paint brushes

  • Paint brush head materials - a selection of household items or craft supplies (see suggestion list below)
  • Scissors
  • Clothes pegs
  • Tape (optional)
  • Shop-bought or homemade paints
  • Paper for painting on

How to make your homemade paint brushes

1. Cut any of your brush head materials down to size if they’re too large.

2. Use a clothes peg to pinch and clip in the materials to create your various paint brush heads.

You may need to wrap a piece of tape around the pegs to ensure the materials don’t fall out.

3. Put out some paint out and and let your kids get creative with their new brushes!
