They're fun and simple to do at home, plus friends and family will love the personal touch of your little one’s fingerprints.

Find out how to make both fingerprint Christmas lights cards and fingerprint Christmas tree cards with these easy instructions from our friends at Mud Mates.

1. Christmas lights cards

What you'll need for each card

  • A piece of A4 white cardboard (160 gsm works well)

  • Black permanent marker

  • Alphabet stickers (optional)

Instructions

1. Fold the white cardboard in half to create a card.

2. Using the black permanent marker draw a swirly, squiggly line across the front of the card for the wire of the Christmas lights.

3. Then draw small black squares along the line for the light bulb fittings.

4. Get your little one to dip their finger into the first paint colour, then push it onto the card where the black squares are to create the hanging light bulbs.

5. Repeat with each of the paint colours along the line.

6. Leave to dry.

7. You could then add a Christmas message to the front of the card with the black marker pen or using alphabet stickers.

8. Add your personal message inside too and get the kids to sign their name if they’re old enough.

2. Christmas tree cards

What you'll need for each card

  • A piece of A4 white cardboard (160 gsm works well)

  • Pencil

  • Water-based washable paints in green, red & yellow

  • Brown card and glue or brown paint for the trunk

  • Black marker pen

  • Alphabet stickers (optional)

  • Sequins, glitter or rhinestones (optional)

Instructions

1. Fold the white cardboard in half to create a card.

2. With a pencil, draw a triangle to represent the shape of a Christmas tree.

3. Get your little one to dip their finger into the green paint, then press it onto the card following the pencil line.

4. Repeat filling in the triangle until it’s full with little green fingerprints.

5. Get your little one to dip their finger into the red paint and do random prints amongst the tree for the Christmas baubles.

6. They can also add a yellow fingerprint for a star at the top of the tree.

7. For the tree trunk either use brown fingerprints or thumbprints to make up a rectangle for the trunk or cut out a small rectangle shape from the brown card and glue it onto the Christmas card.

8. Leave to dry.

9. You could then add a Christmas message to the front of the card with the black marker pen or using alphabet stickers.

10. Your could also stick sequins, glitter or small rhinestones to the Christmas tree for decorations.

11. Add your personal message inside and get the kids to sign their name if they’re old enough.
