Hi,

Kia Ora, I’m Jenhai, a child and family therapist and the owner of Emotional Connections which specialises in parent-infant therapy.
As a parent-infant therapy consultant in a private practice in the Waikato, I offer in child-centred play therapy, working with parents to strengthen their attachment and relationship with their children through play.
In my Hamilton-based clinic, I provide a quiet safe space to work together with you and your child and help to address the underlying reasons for your concerns.
Often the unsaid or past relationships can have a powerful influence on your current relationship with your child.

How parent-child therapy can help
I can help to alleviate some of these common concerns which may be affecting your family:
- The impact of trauma
- Attachment and bonding difficulties
- Antenatal concerns
- Post-natal depression
- Separation anxiety
- Feeding or toileting difficulties with your child
- Behavioural regulation with your child
- Grief and loss
Parent-child therapy services
At Emotional Connections, the therapy services I offer include:
- Parent-child attachment therapy (accredited Filial therapist)
Filial Therapy is a psycho-educational approach that combines family therapy and play therapy with the goals of strengthening the parent-child relationship and overcoming or preventing problems that might otherwise lead to destructive family behaviours, including abuse and violence.
Filial Therapy increases parents' understanding of their children's feelings, attitudes and behaviours and helps children develop a better understanding of their own feelings.
- Parent- Infant psychotherapy for 0-4 year olds
I focus on improving parental sensitivity and parent-infant attachment therapy, as well as working towards trauma recovery.
- Infant-led Therapy through Play ( 4 months - 5 years)
Watch Wait and Wonder psychotherapeutic intervention (WWW) uses child-led play to strengthen the relationship between parent/caregiver and child and improve a child’s self- regulation.
I am fully accredited to carry out this intervention in independent practice.
- Consultation to professionals in fostering and adoption
Testimonial
'Jenhai has been central in challenging my negative self-beliefs about my parenting. She has provided a safe environment for my son and I to reconnect and has given me confidence in my ability to engage with him in play.'
The comments are from a mum who suffered from depression and had been diagnosed with borderline personality disorder. She had significant difficulties around feeding and bonding with her 12 month old son.
